Here's another song that I've been meaning to post for a while. Not very spiritual, but I think the "deer hunters" here will like it. :D

Can't find the lyrics anywhere on-line, but this is a video of the song.

Acts 9 Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21All those who heard him were astonished and asked, "Isn't he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn't he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?" 22Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Christ.

I grew up with Alice Cooper singing "Dead Babies," "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Welcome to My Nightmare" and quite honestly considered him the epitomy of evil. I never would have believed that one day he would surrender to God and become a born again believer. What are the odds? What were the chances of Paul or Alice doing a complete about face and asking God to change them?

If I was a betting man I certainly would not have wagered so much as a dime on either but God can change us once we decide we've had enough and change is what Chris Young sings about in "The Man I Want To Be".

God, I'm down here on my knees
Cause it's the last place left to fall
Beggin' for another chance
If there's any chance at all
That you might still be listenin'
Lovin' and forgivin' guys like me
I've spent my whole life gettin' it all wrong
And I sure could use your help cause from now on

I wanna be a good man
A do like I should' man
I wanna be the kind of man the mirror likes to see
I wanna be a strong man
And admit that I was wrong, man
God I'm asking you to come change me
into the man I wanna be

There's anyway for her and me to make another start
Could you see what you could do
To put some love back in her heart
Cuz' it going to take a miracle
After all I've done to really make her see

That I wanna be a stay man
I wanna be a brave man
I wanna be the kind of man that she sees in her dreams
God, I wanna be your man
And I wanna be her man
God, I only hope she still believes
In the man I wanna be

Well, I know this late at night that talk is cheap
But Lord, don't give up on me

I wanna be a givin' man
I wanna really start livin' man
God, I'm asking you to come change me
into the man I wanna be

I never dreamed, not in a million years that I would join Alice Cooper and turn my life over to God either. True...I didn't bite the heads off from chickens and bats in front of live audiences but I was also no "Mr Nice Guy"!!

Several things one can take from all of this...that God can change us if we allow Him into our lives, that no matter how wicked or evil God can forgive us if we repent and change our lives.

From a music perspective there are those who would frown upon country music because of "drinkin' cheatin" songs from years past or look upon rock music as as evil based on people like Alice Cooper. I know I associate rap with some of the most horrid evil song lyrics and so much so, I often cringe when I hear any rap music.

In reality however God's work can be done through any music venue and people can be reached through believers singing the right kind of message to the beat of a different drum.

We should avoid evil people and song lyrics but at the same time not give up on anyone, even as evil as Paul and Alice, nor should we sterotype song artists who may very well have a positive message to convey.

I continue to pray that God will open my heart and my ears to His message and in doing so that He will change me into...the man I want to be....... ;)
When I get where I'm going....don't cry for me down here...

I wonder what some people think when tell them we shoot deer in order to help draw people closer to God, kinda the same as using different styles of music, they all can have a purpose! I've been pretty hard nosed about only country music but lately the new (to me anyways) songs have been growing on me, I'm not sure if "rock" is the right word but the songs are cool! Third Day and I think Chris Tomlin was another one, whatever was on the radio!

Matthew 11:28

28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Jesus knew of our struggles with sin and the heavy burden that comes with it, like a ball and chain that we drag around. He welcomed us to come to Him and that He would give us rest from that which we cannot shake alone.

I love this song by Needtobreathe Lay 'Em Down because that's exactly what I did!

Lay 'Em Down - video

come down to the river
come and let youself in
make good on a promise
to never hurt again
if you're lost and lonely
you're broken down

bring all of your troubles come lay 'em down
all you sinners
and the weak at heart
all you helpless
on the boulevards
wherever you are now
whatever evil you've found

bring all of your troubles
and come lay 'em down
we're all tied to the same old failings
finding shelter in things we know
we're all dirty like corrupted small towns

we'll bring our troubles
we'll bring our troubles lay 'em down
all you rich men
and the high above

all those with and without love
all you burdened broken down
bring all of your troubles
come lay 'em down
come lay 'em down
come lay 'em down

I can talk til the cows come home and never convince you of the wonderful feeling of finally laying down my troubles at Christ's feet. It's hard for me to listen to the words of this song without tears coming to my eyes, the relief I felt, the new found peace I had never inmy life felt.

Some of you reading this want that peace but you cling to your ball and chain, disbelieving that Jesus is really the answer.

You say your tired...of the hurt, the heartache, the worry and the fear? Ha! Your not tired enough or you would lay 'em down...and be free of your weariness and burdens...forever......;)

My daughter sent us this song for our 25th Anniversary....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geVbSntnOd8

Lyrics to Love Never Fails :
Love is not proud
Love does not boast
Love after all
Matters the most

Love does not run
Love does not hide
Love does not keep
Locked inside

Love is the river that flows through
Love never fails you

Love will sustain
Love will provide
Love will not cease
At the end of time

Love will protect
Love always hopes
Love still believes
When you don’t

Love is the arms that are holding you
Love never fails you

When my heart won’t make a sound
When I can’t turn back around
When the sky is falling down
Nothing is greater than this
Greater than this

Love is right here
Love is alive
Love is the way
The truth the life

Love is the river than flows through
Love is the arms that are holding you
Love is the place you will fly to
Love never fails you

Great song....God's love for us is unfailing and unending and He reminds us often through His Word to love others in the same way... ;)

I've always been a fan of country music and found another song today that I've never heard of. It is by Diamond Rio and titled "In God We Still Trust". I've read that it was played at some concerts, recorded by Diamond Rio, but never released by radio stations because of it was considered politically incorrect. I'm not sure if that story is true or not but the song was new to me and I thought I'd pass it on!
