Wildwood Adventures 3-D shoot

Postby CamoMan on Fri Jul 30, 2010 6:07 pm

I was talking with Rjack (Roger) not too long ago, and remembered that I hadn't followed up on our Wildwood Adventures 3-D shoot we did last month. It was a great time and the rain ended early, which allowed us to take to the woods and run through part of the course. The boys were shooting the Mathews Genesis bows which worked great. We shot the closest stake and sometimes would make our own shooting line. What was so great for me was to have Roger, JMAC0501 (Jason) and Ironwood (Mike) take a crew of two boys each through the course. That freed me to float around, take photos and check on how all the teams were doing. Thanks so much to Roger and Jason for volunteering their time that day. The boys had a great time and said they would love to do it again. Here are a few photos from that Saturday morning outing:

Heading across the field to our first target. The rain made things a little more challenging, but for the most part, it didn't change what we did. A person just had to walk a little more careful in some areas. Image

Roy lining up on a target. I brought his Mathews Mission bow that Mathews donated a year or so ago. Roy is the young man I mentor, and he is a joy to be around. There are some tough challenges in his family life, but God has done a great work in this young man's life, and he is a good kid who loves God.

Austin, Jason and Roy getting ready for a tower shot. Jason was great with our Wildwood boys, and I suspect his own boys will be in for some really fun outdoor activities someday soon.

Roger helping Cole score his great shot. Roger was a real blessing to us and I am very grateful for his servant heart.

Mike had a great day taking Chris and Tyler around the course. Tyler said his fingers were still kinda numb a couple days later from the shooting. He wasn’t complaining – and he wants to do it again.

Brandon(my nephew) and Cole shot very, very well that day, and they had an absolute blast.

The crew gathered around their last target of the morning. It was a little tricky getting across the mini-ravine to this billy goat, and the picture doesn’t show the effects of Brandon’s mud slide.

The day finished with a great BBQ lunch back at the Happy Apple Archery shop. Many, many thanks to Rick for waiving the fee and allowing us to shoot for free. I am always grateful for the kindness God sends our way.

It was a great day of shooting and hanging out together. Mike and I are planning on a clay pigeon shoot in August and a muzzleloader and .22 shoot in early September. We will be having some meals and meetings at my place after these shoots, and will work to challenge the boys to know what they believe about God . . . and why. Up til now, most of what we do has been activity-based. We will continue keeping busy with fun monthly outdoor events, but we will be working just as much on helping them choose to live good lives that are pleasing to God. Some live in decent households (almost half live with grandparents), and some are in homes are really messed up - but most all lack good male leadership. Some attend church and some don’t. Please pray that God will do a great work in the lives of these boys (there are 10 boys in the program). Thanks to so many of you for your support and encouragement. September and October will be exciting because we will be taking a number of them on deer hunts. If God puts it on your heart to help with that . . . you know how to reach me. :)

That looks like great fun Kevin! I'm glad the boys had fun and thankful of the impact that wildwood is making in their lives.

What a great time it was. I was a little worried on the way down with pouring rain. But, God gave us a nice break for some outside shooting. As you can see in the last picture, none of the boys had shoes on. I'm sure they all had fun cleaning the mud off of their shoes at home :D Brandon had mud everywhere. I think he fell at least twice. All the boys (even those beyond the teenage years) had a blast.

Kevin has done a great job getting this rolling and is obviously impacting these boys. I'm looking forward to participating in the next event.

Thanks again to Rick at Happy Apple for allowing the group to shoot for free. What a great guy.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.
